Mary Washington Hospital

Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg (18 miles) is a 308-bed, full-service regional facility providing excellent health care. It features a 24-hour emergency room, surgical and critical care divisions, and a dialysis unit.

Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center

Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center (25 miles) is a $175 million hospital with 126-beds and all rooms are private and provide a wide range of in - and outpatient services, including 24-hour emergency care, obstetrics, diagnostic imaging, intensive care, cardiac catheterization and psychiatric care. Located on a 75-acre campus south of Fredericksburg on Interstate 95,SRMC is a part of HCA Virginia, which is the commonwealth's most comprehensive healthcare network.

Heritage Hall

Locally, Heritage Hall, a state-licensed nursing home, has 130 beds. Recently Heritage Hall was awarded the AHCA/NCAL Silver Award, an award given to skilled nursing facilities that exhibit process and quality improvement for their residents. This is a major achievement as only 11 facilities in Virginia have ever been given the award.

Gateway Medical Urgent

Gateway Medical Urgent care facility offers treatment of most major illnesses, minor surgical procedures, fractures, lacerations, flu

shots and vaccinations. Treatment for specific ailments include sinus infections, cold and cough, allergies, sore throat, pneumonia, dizziness, ear aches, fever, rashes, bites, sprains or strains, minor back pain, cuts, stitches, and Workers Comp injuries. Physical exams are available (general, school, sports, employment, DOT-DCL). Laboratory testing, digital x-ray services, EKG testing are on-site.


Seven doctors and three dentists have practices in King George County. Emergency transport service is provided by the Department of Emergency Services, Dahlgren Rescue Squad and Clare Ambulance Service.

The Public Health Department

The Public Health Department offers immunizations, pediatric and orthopedic services, and pregnancy tests. The department also performs soil studies, tests water samples as part of its clinical/environmental program, and issues sewerage disposal permits.

Emergency Services

King George County is served by an Enhanced 911 System operated by the King George Sheriff’s Office. The sheriff’s office consists of 35 full-time personnel and five Virginia State Troopers. King George Fire and Rescue, has 96 active and volunteer members and three stations. Both paid and volunteer staff provides Basic Life Support and Advanced Life Support Care throughout the county.
