KING GEORGE PARKS AND RECREATION
Good evening,
We are still greatly in need of 5 U8 head coaches and 2 U12 head coaches. If you or someone you know would be interested in coaching a U8 or U12 soccer team this upcoming fall season, please reply to this email (preferred), call the Citizens Center at (540) 775-4386, or stop by the Citizens Center to let us know. Our operating hours are Monday-Thursday from 8am-7pm and on Fridays from 8am-4:30pm. Please be sure to provide us with your contact information so that we can reach you. The teams for the fall season cannot be constructed until we have enough volunteers, and the start of the season will be delayed indefinitely until we are able to find them, so please let us know as soon as possible if you are interested in coaching.
More Information:
For those unfamiliar with volunteer coaching for soccer with KGPR, the responsibilities would include picking up their soccer equipment and rosters at the start of the season, coaching the players at practice, informing parents of your practice schedule, disseminating game schedule information to parents once available, picking up and distributing uniforms once available, and working with Parks and Rec to reschedule any games that get canceled. Coaches will be informed of any pertinent information regarding schedule changes, and this information must also be passed along to parents.
Coaches get to choose the days, times, and location at which they practice. If you are unfamiliar with this process, coaches usually choose two days to practice during the beginning of the season (before games begin) and then move to one practice a week once games begin, although you can keep the two practices a week once games begin if you have the necessary availability and the approval of your team. The practice days can be any two days, Monday through Saturday, the locations can be Sealston Sports Complex, Barnesfield Park, Cedell Brooks Jr. Park (formerly Shiloh Park), or Ralph Bunche school, and the practice time slots are either 5:30pm or 6:30pm on weekdays and 9am-12noon on Saturday. Practices are scheduled to begin the week of August 12th, with the first game tentatively scheduled for September 7th. Head coaches are also reimbursed the registra tion fee of one child at the end of the season in appreciation of all their hard work, as long as they have completed the online NAYS certification we have available for coaches.
We would certainly like to avoid delaying the start of the season, so if you are able, please consider volunteering, as coaching usually only requires about a 2-3 hour time commitment per week. The Parks and Recreation soccer program really relies on the dedication of its volunteers to be successful, so we would really appreciate having you coach!
Thank you,
Devin LaMoy
