On August 20, 2019 @ 21:05 hrs, Units were dispatch for smoke in a residential structure due to a lightning strike ITA of 11000 Block of Ashland Mill RD. Call was upgraded after the owner noticed the second floor filling with heavy smoke and the roof on fire. Tanker 2 arrived on-scene first and started initial interior fire attack. NDW B28 established ICS and was transferred to C1 once arrived on-scene. PASS accountability was established and PARs were completed every 10 minutes during IDLH interior fire suppression was being conducted. NDW T28 perfomed roof ventilation and supporting MUA companies assisted with fire suppression, water supply and RIT assignments. Owner and pets were safe and accounted for. Cause of the fire was determined to be a lightning strike and the origin was in the attic area with roofing materials adjacent to the brick chimney. Battery operated smoke detectors did activate. Fire was contained to the attic and second floor. Salvage and overhaul was conducted to minimize further water damage and the roof vent access hole was covered with plastic. The structure was determined to be Unsafe and proper placarding was posted. Notification was provided to the County Building Official and Electrical service was secured by Dominion Power. The owner of the structure did have immediate shelter would be following up with her insurance company. ICS was secured without incident and no injuries were reported.
