[ARCHIVED] Smoke in the Commerical Building - James Madison PKWY

On January 27, 2020 at 19:38 hrs, Units were dispatched to the Quality Inn for smoke in the gym/laundry area with evacuation in progress. On arrival crews found the structure evacuated and a light haze of smoke on the first floor in the area of the gym/laundry area. Crews searched both floors of the building and isolated the source to the area of the washer and dryer.  While investigating the source it was found that the dryer was improperly vented and was disconnected do to the hazard of continued use. The washer was determined to be the source of the smoke and the belt showed damage and scorching.  The manager was advised of the hazards found and advised not to use either appliance until permits and repairs were made to correct the hazards. Command was terminated and Units cleared the scene at 20:34 hrs.
